1 Morning departure to Washington DC Check in to your accommodation & relax after a busy day travelling
2 Start the day with a guided tour of the historic Capitol. Learn how the world's first truly representative democracy began & where the Congress sits. Your tour will include the Crypt, the Rotunda & National Statuary Hall Visit Newseum, a highly interactive museum dedicated to the news. See a suspended news helicopter in the atrium & a 4-D time travel movie in on of the state of the art theatres. Each of the seven levels in this magnificent building is packed with interactive exhibits that explore how news affects our shared experience of historic moments Enjoy an evening meal at a local restaurant
3 Visit the National Museum of American History's collection of more than 3 million artifacts of American history & culture, from the War of Independence to the present day. Here you'll get to see the very first Star Spangled Banner Get your camera at the ready & visit the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool. The 19 foot statue of Abraham Lincoln sits overlooking the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument from his permanent seat on America's Front Yard. Dedicated in 1922, the Lincoln Memorial has been home to many defining moments in American history. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in front of 250,000 attendees Enjoy an evening meal at a local restaurant
4 This morning, head across the Potomac river to the Arlington National Cemetery which is the final resting place of over 400,000 service members and their families. Here you'll take a tour which includes sights such as President John F. Kennedy Gravesite, the U.S. Coast Guard Memorial, Arlington House and the Memorial Amphitheater. Time you visit right and you'll get the chance to see the hourly changing of the guard Return back to Washington DC this afternoon and spend some time either checking out some of the other Smithsonian museums or even take in a little souvenir shopping before you depart for home Take an overnight flight back to the UK to arrive the following morning
