Travel & Tourism student to Travel expert - Sammi's Career story
When Sammi left school in July 2004 she wasn’t entirely sure what she wanted to do but opted for a BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism at college. As part of the course she attended a 4 day tour - Business-of-Travel-Tourism-Conventionin December 2004, which is exclusively run for colleges by COGO Travel (formerly The Travel Adventure).
Whilst on this tour a key part of the programme is focused on a morning seminar, featuring talks by key members of the Disney Marketing & PR team taking you behind the scenes of how they share the magic of Disney. It’s an amazing experience which enables students to understand what it’s like working in the Travel Industry; and offers an invaluable insight into the opportunities available and how best to position yourself for a career in travel.
Sammi agrees this was a highlight of the trip, “It was great to hear first-hand from senior speakers working at Disney, the tour also gave us the opportunity to learn about the parks in a fun and relaxed environment. After attending this trip, I knew I’d made the right decision, it confirmed a career in the travel industry was for me!”
Upon returning, Sammi successfully completed her course, attended University and pursued various roles within the travel industry before being reunited with COGO Travel, this time being employed by us as a Tour Coordinator. And yes, she is now heavily involved in the running and organisation of The Business of Travel & Tourism Convention at Disneyland® Paris.
No-one is more surprised by this than Sammi, “Who’d have thought I would now be working for the company that cemented my desire to work in travel. I have fond memories of the tour, I even have the original tour leaflet!” Sammi went onto say “Attending this tour played a pivotal role in defining my career and confirming I’d made the right decision about what industry I wanted to work in.”
This annual tour is operated by COGO Travel, a preferred partner of Disneyland® Paris, and has been running successfully for over 21 years, it’s a great way of combining the fun of the parks with the educational elements of a travel and tourism course.
