About Poble Espanyol
Built in 1929 for the International Festival the Poble Espanyol "Spanish Town" was an exhibit dedicated to the architecture and culture of Spain. Between May 1929 and January 1930, Poble Espanyol hosted a long list of cultural and recreational events: parties with dancing, competitions, bullfights, dance from different regions of Spain. The precinct, part of the group of pavilions dedicated to art, was so successful that when the Exhibition closed its doors, the City Council decided not to demolish it, as had been planned initially.
Today the Spanish Town is one of Barcelona's premier cultural venues and a thriving centre for the arts and live events, attracting over 1 million local and international visitor a year. The venue provides a unique opportunity to perform in front of a live audience in beautiful surroundings, with open air performance spaces, a theatre, restaurants artisan workshops, galleries of contemporary Art and museum celebrating Spanish culture.
